I know you must be thinking – how can you ever go wrong in the shower? You are actually cleaning your body, that’s good, right? Correct, but you might also be making small mistakes you could avoid in order to have a better routine. By doing things differently you might actually notice that you have a better skin and hair care routine.
Here’s what you might be doing wrong.
You’re shaving at the beginning of your shower
We know shaving can be so uncomfortable because no matter if you do it daily, it keeps coming back. If you actually want to make the most out of it and keep your skin soft for longer, wait for at least 10 minutes before you start shaving. This way, your hairs will soften and your pores will open, and this will make it much easier for you to get a smoother shave. Don’t keep your razor in the shower, as your blades might rust and blunt faster. Use this tip: keep a small glass of baby oil in which you should place your razor when you’re not using it, this way the metal will be protected from oxidising and it will stay sharp for a longer time.
You’re not moisturising your skin after you shower
Before you jump out of the shower and start rubbing your skin with a towel, you might consider it patting it gently. In maximum five minutes after you finish showering, apply a generous layer of moisturiser to your skin. It will do wonders for your skin! Make sure you moisturise before your skin is completely dry, this way your skin will be hydrated for longer.
The water is too hot
We know a long, hot shower might be the perfect fix for a stressful day, but before turning that heat up you should know that it’s drying your skin out. Hot showers dehydrate your skin by stripping it of its natural oils, making it feel itchy, dry and even flaking. Don’t spend too much time in the shower, 5 minutes is perfect for a quick shower and 15 minutes is ideal if you’re also washing your hair.
You’re not considering using a mask while showering
What better time for a mask to be fully absorbed into your skin than in the shower? When your pores are open from the warmth of the water, a nourishing mask is perfect if you want to achieve its full effect. Also, masks like clay or charcoal can pull more toxins from your pores when they are open without the risk of dehydrating your skin. If you’re not into masks, you can use a thin layer of organic honey over your face for 5 minutes. You will see the difference!
You’re using old sponges
We’ve all did that, didn’t we? The thing is that you really can’t tell when a sponge or loofa is not good anymore. Before keeping your sponge for one more month, please be aware of the fact that sponges and loofas collect bacteria and mold due to the damp conditions from the shower, and this can lead to rashes or dry patches. The best time to keep a sponge or loofa is maximum one month. If you want to make the most out of it, make sure you dry it out completely before you use it next and store it in a dry place.
While we’re not here to blame anyone or point out fingers, we could all use an extra piece of advice. These easy tricks should make you achieve the most out of your showering routine.
After all, you want to preserve your beauty for as long as you can, don’t you?
